WordPress 3.0 Thelonious: Multi Blogs, Single Installation, More Customization
The long-awaited release of the latest WordPress 3.0 “Thelonious” is finally available for download. In a statement from Matt Mullenweg, the latest release of WordPress was announced officially. The latest release was inspired from Thelonious Monk who composed and played simple yet unique jazz style.
Thelonious Sphere Monk (October 10, 1917 – February 17, 1982) was an American jazz pianist and composer considered “one of the giants of American music”.
Main Features of WordPress 3.0 “Thelonious”
The new features of the latest WordPress will support the changing nature of WordPress from a blogging platform into a full fledged Content Management System (CMS). The list of features and enhancements is very long. But the most important ones include: Unique Administrator’s credentials, custom post types and taxonomies, a new powerful default theme “TwentyTen” with custom header and background support, merging with WordPress MU (multi blogs from single installation), and a custom menu management.
The Future of WordPress 3.0
Automattic is actually not going to focus on the next release of WordPress as of yet. Instead they are going to spend at least the next three months on everything around WordPress such as the community with over 10.3 million downloads of version 2.9, the showcase, Codex, profiles, update and compatibility APIs, theme directory, plugin directory, mailing lists, and core plugins.
